Stephanie Moore AIT: Consultant Trichologist
My interest in Trichology first began when I started out my career as a hair stylist, first working for a local salon where I grew up in Dorking and later for Headmasters. Seeing many heads of hair, I realised that there were a variety of issues that were affecting the hair and scalp that I didn’t know enough about. I later moved into assessing hairdressing qualifications before spending 10 years working for a local college, Nescot, first as course co-ordinator setting up hairdressing qualifications and as a lecturer, tutor and internal verifier and made the decision to study Trichology and change direction after the birth of my second child.
I qualified from the prestigious Institute of Trichologists with distinctions in 2016 and received the great honour of being awarded the ‘John Mason Award for Excellence’ at my graduation. In the time that followed, I set up the Surrey Trichology Clinic have completed the mentoring programme to become a full member, and have been honoured to be asked to join the Institute of Trichologists teaching team as a clinical tutor, spending every Wednesday passing on my knowledge and passion to our Trichology students London.
I still keep a hand in hairdressing as lead moderator and examiner for City and Guilds technical qualifications in hairdressing, helping to ensure high standards across the hairdressing industry. I feel that this background in hairdressing has been really beneficial as I understand what hair means to people, an in depth knowledge of various chemical processes and can also provide practical tips!
Since entering the world of Trichology, I have written various articles for magazines and websites and been invited to speak at various events including the National Trichology Conference, the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons (BAHRS) annual conference and presented to the members of the Institute of Trichologists at our own CPD day. I was very proud to receive the ‘Outstanding Trichologist – Newcomer Award’ at the Hair Science Awards in Manchester in 2018, voted for by my peers and industry specialists.
I have professional membership of the Institute of Trichologists, the International Association of Trichologists, the European Hair Research Society (EHRS) and BAHRS, who ensure ethical clinical practice in their members. I regularly attend CPD events and conferences to update my knowledge in this growing and fascinating area of science, ensuring that I can deliver up to date, evidence based advice to my patients. I have a special interest in research within the sector; I am a partner in a pioneering research project with Imperial College London to investigate the role of the scalp microbiome in hair loss and am currently about to start further study in Biomedical Science alongside running my busy clinic!
Above all, I enjoy making a difference to others in what can be a difficult time, through applying my knowledge and offering correct, honest advice to bring about understanding and resolution. Please feel free to email me to discuss your particular concerns.
